The Graphorn stands out as the premier ground mount in Hogwarts Legacy, offering players unmatched offensive power and traversal capabilities across the open world. Unlike flying options like brooms or Hippogriffs, this formidable beast allows witches and wizards to smash through enemy encampments and environmental obstacles with ease. Understanding when and how to unlock this powerful creature is essential for completing your collection of magical beasts.

Unlocking the San Bakar Trial Quest

To acquire your first Graphorn, you must progress deep into the main story until you reach San Bakar's Trial. This late-game quest takes place in the southern region of the map near the Clagmar Coast. Professor Fig will guide you toward the chamber entrance, where you must uncover a hidden Graphorn carving behind dense foliage.

Once the path is revealed, your objective shifts to locating the legendary Lord of the Shore at its seaside den. You cannot access or tame the Graphorn before initiating this specific main questline. Fast-traveling to a nearby Floo Flame allows you to reach the creature's lair quickly on your broom.

Battling and Subduing the Lord of the Shore

Taming a Graphorn requires subduing it through combat, making this encounter feel like a proper boss fight. The creature possesses a thick hide that renders most utility spells completely ineffective against its health bar. You should rely primarily on red damage spells, Ancient Magic attacks, and well-timed dodge rolls to stay safe.

When you fully deplete the Graphorn's health bars, a brief narrative moment gives you the option to either kneel or attack. Choosing to kneel demonstrates respect, convincing the beast to accept you as its master and ally. Regardless of your choice, the creature becomes permanently unlocked as your ground mount.

Harnessing the Unique Abilities of the Graphorn Mount

Riding the Graphorn into battle introduces a heavy-hitting combat mechanic not available with other mounts. By holding down the charge button, you can sprint forward to knock down poachers and break through wooden barricades. While this charge drains stamina rapidly, it provides a fun and destructive way to clear hostile areas.

The Graphorn can also be assigned to your mount wheel for easy summoning during outdoor exploration. Beyond its traversal benefits, caring for the beast provides valuable crafting materials. Feeding and brushing your Graphorn in the Vivarium yields Graphorn Horns used for gear upgrades.

Capturing Additional Graphorns for Your Vivarium

After completing the main trial, you can return to the Clagmar Coast den to encounter more Graphorns in the wild. Capturing subsequent beasts requires subduing them in combat before using the Nab-Sack. Only one Graphorn spawns at the den at a time, requiring you to visit repeatedly.

By rescuing both a male and female Graphorn, you can bring them to your Room of Requirement breeding pen. Breeding these majestic creatures allows you to raise playful offspring and complete your Vivarium collection. Expanding your sanctuary with multiple Graphorns provides a reliable source of rare upgrade materials for late-game gear.
